Board Minutes
March 24, 2010

Minutes approved
Treasurer’s Report:
- balance $6300
- Figures of Speech brought in
around $1000. To cover the rest of Figures of Speech fees $800 will come
from PAB account and $530 from the Drama/Musical account.
- All State fees are due.
David B. will write a letter of request to FHS to supplement ˝ of the All State fees (as done in the past). Students and PAB pay the rest.
Scholarships:
- Application is on the
website. Davis B. will update and make copies for approximately 30
students.
- The applications will go out
immediately and the deadline has been set for May 3rd for high
school and middle school students.
- A list of the criteria is
also listed on the website. John C. will send out reminder notices to
keep the scholarship process on track.
- Solicit help in reading over
the applications (Jerry Stone and/or Elizabeth Patten…interested?)
- Christine Chipman
scholarship-Lise Dunn will take care of handling the scholarship process
from application to contacting the Chipman family. Award is set to be
given in May.
- Contact Natalie Forster about
the “disc” with all the documents needed for awards night.
Other Business:
- PAB will be purchasing a
Xylophone. An announcement will be made at the April 8th
concert.
- Patron Campaign:
- Work on getting a “Donation”
button added to our website.
- A subgroup consisting of
Cynthia S., John C. and John A. will work on keeping the Patron Campaign
in the public eye.
- PAB will put together a list
of guidelines for funding requests.
- Beth has volunteered to put
together such form to include: Who? How Much? When is the event? This
will also create paper trail.
- The form will be made
available on the PAB website.
- Awards Night May 25th
- Overall there was positive
feedback on last years event.
- Cynthia will work on getting
the labels and invitations prior to April break.
- Tracy will solicit desserts
- David W. has 2 awards that
he purchases a certificate and a marble trophy. PAB will cover the costs
of those two trophies as well as the chocolates if a receipt is
submitted.
- PAB will need to advertise
Cabaret and Art Show that will be held April 30th. A few
parents were caught off guard about the are show part of Caberet Night.
- “Solfege By the Sea”
- will be held June 28th-July
2nd at FHS. Lise Dunn and Jessica are hosting and organizing
the week long course open to educators from around the area.
- 15-20 teachers would pay to
attend. There is no cost to PAB.
- PAB will be used for
deposits and check writing.
- The guest lecturer usually
tours in the midwest area so bringing him to Maine has created a lot of
interest.
- Discussion of moving the PAB
board meeting has been put off until the new school year.
Teachers Update:
David Watts:
- David W. is looking for
volunteers to help at April 6th dress rehearsal which will be
held in the gym. Help moving the equipment (from music room to gym and
back) and supervision of the students is needed. Rehearsal is set from
630-830. Additional help is needed on stage (4/8)at intermission to set
up all the band chairs, risers…
- David W. will have a student
paint up a sign to be placed on the Ben & Jerry’s fence to advertise
the concert on April 8th. Tray will get the town permit.
- New Course offered in the
fall for Juniors and Seniors called Music History which will coincide with
Global Studies and Western Civ. (the course will be 0.5 credit).
Jessica:
- Music in our schools was held
March 16th. It was a great concert.
- Kudos to Sarah Brooks who
gave a speech on the importance of music in our schools.
- Magnets and stickers are a
hit.
Next Meeting will be April 14th,
6:30pm
- Topic for next meeting will
include setting up guidelines for students who participate in drama events
after school (ie. numbers of hours into the evening and number of days
students should participate).
